GAZETTE NOTIFICATION UNDER JPM ACT DATED 25TH OCT.,2000

ORDER


New Delhi, Dated 25thOctober, 2000
S.O. 955(E).Whereas, the CentralGovernment, after
considering the recommendations made to it by the Standing Advisory Committee, is satisfied that it is necessary so to do in the interests of production of raw jute and jute packaging material, and of persons engaged in the production thereof.

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Jute Packaging Materials (Compulsory Use in Packing Commodities) Act, 1987,(10 of 1987), and in supersession of the Order of the Government of India in the Ministry of Textiles bearing S.O.No.526 (E) dated 1st July, 1999 published in the Gazette of India, Extra-ordinary Part II, Section 3, Sub-section (ii) dated 1st July, 1999, except as respects things done or omitted to be done before such supersession, the Central Government hereby directs that, w.e.f. the25thOctober, 2000 the commodities specified in column (2) of the Schedule below, shall be packed in jute packaging material, for supply or distribution, in such minimum percentage as specified in corresponding entries in column(3) of the said Schedule for the period from25th October, 2000 to 30th June, 2001

2. Sugar Hundred Per cent
3. Urea TwentyPer cent

In case of any disruption in supply of jute packaging material, Ministry of Textiles may, in consultation with the user Ministry concerned, relax these provisions upto a maximum of 20% for foodgrains and sugar and 5% for urea respectively.

Further, in exercise of powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 16 of the Jute Packaging Materials (Compulsory Use in Packing Commodities) Act, 1987, (10 of 1987),the Central Government hereby direct that export packaging and small consumer packs of 5 kg and below in respect offoodgrains and sugar shall be exempted from the operation of this order.
