Q. What causes cracking of the leather grain during lasting?

Causes
This problem generally occurs on the shoe tip as this part has to bear most of the stress during lasting.
In most cases this is due to non-proper tannage which provokes a weakening of the leather to such an extent that it cannot resist the elastometer minimum value of 7 kg.

Solutions
To obtain a lasting without any cracking problem, apply the DC 4500 softener 15 min. before lasting. DC 4500 is an aqueous surfactant and plasticizer mixture which is applied by brush or sponge on the flesh side of leather.
After its application, the product dries completely, leaving the shoe perfectly shaped and with the grain intact. If DC 4500 needs to be applied on the grain side, it is advisable to test the finishing stability of the product.
