Acronyms and Terminology
From the author of 'Back to the Future'
The key to the future lies in co-operation, team working, open work
environment and collaborative business partnerships. Technology,
however, is only the enabling force behind this radical change in
business philosophies.
One more thing is clear. Computers are no longer about automation of
bookkeeping or office automation. They are shaking the core of business.
The cutting edge of computer/communications technology can
provide business advantage, but it also can cut you down if you fail to
grasp the blade But we must realise that machines can not do the work,
people do. People are the prime movers behind any business and it is the
quality and standard of human recourses that will define an
organisation's success chart in 21st century.
For the sake of simplicity few assumptions have been made in the story
to cover maximum areas to be affected by technology in year 2005:
- All the features of hi-technology have been incorporated in one
ideal company with highest perfection level of working;
- Only few key executives and departments have been mentioned but
there could be much expanded organization structure;
- Top management and all employees are highly motivated to absorb
the latest technology;
- Pre-production planning has been replaced by real time production
planning and control;
- There is no finishing section (owing to clean work environment
there are no stains on garments );
- The company has website on internet which contains the
information about company, its products, product's features,
international prices, UPCs of the products, and a customised order
form.
